Student youth leaders join PYLP 12

Jacob Benjamin A. Parulan, John Gregory S. Negoso, and Mary Junnette Andale, Grade 10 Pagsci students, together with 21 other youth leaders from different parts of the country, participated in the Philippine Youth Leadership Program (PYLP) held at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb U.S.A from April 12 to May 10 with the theme: “Environmental Leadership in the Philippines: Developing Youth as Agents of Change and Ecological Activism.”

The PYLP is a four-week USbased exchange program which focuses on Community Service Leadership, Responsible Citizenship, and Action Plan Development funded by U.S Department of State under the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Youth Programs Division in partnership with the Filipino Foundation Incorporated.

During their one-month stay in the U.S., the youth leaders participated in various activities that were aimed at developing their leadership skills.

Other highlights in their travel to the U.S included a visit to the White House in Washington D.C, a tour around downtown Chicago, and a visit to U.S landmarks.

With the support of the PagSci Volunteers Program (PVP), the three youth leaders implemented different community projects. E.D.I.W.O.W (Educational Developmental Innovative War on Waste), “500+” and “Juan for Tree,” were the projects implemented by Parulan, Andale and Negoso, respectively.
